Child Pumping Water

KABWE, ZAMBIA (10/22/18) Given, age 3, plays with the water pump that was recently installed in the new Makalulu community in Kabwe, Zambia.

Like many of the children in the neighborhood, Given and his family used to have to walk almost 90 minutes each way to retrieve water for the day. The new water pump means that the children have more time to play.

Most of the children in this new development in Makalulu live with their grandparents, as their birth parents succumbed to HIV and AIDS-related illnesses. The high cost of attending school means that most of the children here will not receive an education.
