Children in New Makalulu, Kabwe, Zambia

KABWE, ZAMBIA (10/22/2018) Despite losing their parents at a young age and not being able to attend school, most of the children in the new Makalulu development in Kabwe, Zambia are happy. The new development, which was built upon land given to Habitat for Humanity Zambia, features solid concrete construction and plenty of separate latrines.

Prior to living in the new houses, most of the children lived in homes built from mud, which provided little ventilation and would collapse during the rainy season each year, putting the health of the children at serious risk.

Having a latrine outside of each home means that family members no longer rely on unsanitary community latrines.
